Disney seems keen to set a distance between the controversial Miley Cyrus we saw gyrating around a lap dancing pole at the Teen Choice Awards to the sweet sixteen Hannah Montana show which is one the channels premiere money spinners.

Parents around the world questioned the decision to include this raunchy routine in the Teen Choice Awards, which showed Miley dressed in a provocative tank top, shorts and biker boots straddling a lap dancing style pole on top of an ice-cream fan whilst performing her song ‘Party in the USA’. In a statement to the press the Disney channel said “Disney Channel won’t be commentating on that performance’ and continued to assure parents of young teenagers that “all content presented on the Disney Channel is age-appropriate for our audience – kids 6-14 – and consistent with what our brand values are”.

Shortly after the routine was aired the Internet debate regarding the suitability of Cyrus’ routine at the Teen Choice Awards was raging, with one faction applauding Miley for a ‘sweet but sexy’ performance and the other side dismayed by the pole dancing, believing it was inappropriate for both her own age and the age of her young fan base.

Following recent controversy surrounding Miley Cyrus’ slightly raunchy performance at the Teen Choice Awards, her single ‘Party in the USA’ has smashed into the No 40 on Billboards Mainstream top 40 Chart, making it straight to the No.1 downloaded track on iTunes website.

Cyrus appeared on the Teen Choice Awards show in sexy micro shorts, tight tank top and biker boots and proceeded to gyrate around a strip club style pole dancing structure which emerged from the top of the ice cream van stage she was singing from. Parents around the world recoiled at the sight, knowing that their young teenagers where watching their favourite stars performance avidly, and many questioned the wisdom of including this provocative dance routine into a show aimed at the 6-14 year old fan base, with a star who herself is only in her mid teens.

Still the media coverage following this controversial appearance certainly has not done Cyrus’ musical career any harm and “Party in the USA”, the lead single from her new album “The Time of Our Lives” is making its way up the chart rapidly and has a solid following and plenty of radio and music television coverage.

Before deleting her Twitter account fans and detractors of Miley Cyrus alike both found plenty of ammunition in her frequent microblogging posts with which to both support and criticise her, but one of the most talked about moments was when she posted a photograph of herself and supposed best friend Demi Lovato.

On closer inspection the photo was clearly months old, taken back at the premier event of the Hannah Montana movie, and the accompanying message from Cyrus read: ‘Now this is what true friendship looks like. None of that Hollywood crap ** @ddlovato I miss you ’. Cute, but wait to you skip over to Lovato’s immediate response to this sweet little message, ‘Yeah….It’s just kind of hard to miss somebody that I don’t know anymore’ Not exactly an expression of undying friendship.

So why was Lovato not feeling the love for Cyrus? Well there could be a few reasons, for example we know she broke up with Cyrus’ brother a few months again, but they seemed pretty tight still despite this awkward event, but recently Cyrus has been pretty vocal on Twitter and in the media about her ‘difficult’ life, and critics have soundly denounced her microblogging site as self serving, whining rubbish, so are quick to suggest that Lovato is just as sick of all of this self obsession as everyone else.

Miley Cyrus has always been a prolific Twitter contributor, and her microblogging account was one of the most popular on the site with over 1.1 million followers, but recently it seems Miley has cancelled her account and quit the world of Twitter.

Reports suggest Miley decided to end her popular slot on Twitter because her boyfriend, 19 year old Australian actor Liam Hensworth was not a big fan of the site and didn’t want Miley to continue her online Twitter activities, but other close sources also suggest that Miley simply wanted to take a step back from the personal nature of microblogging and spend more time with her family and friends and less time on the computer.

Official statements have not yet been released regarding the sudden withdrawal of her popular Twitter site, but parents of young girls are justifiable concerned by claims that Miley has only done so because her boyfriend told her too, as this raises worrying issues about how young teenagers perceive the dynamics of budding relationships.

Miley Cyrus has millions of young fans all around the world, both girls and boys, and the idea that she should stop her popular Twitter account, which has a massive following, just to please her boyfriend is bound to have an affect on these impressionable fans, and may set them wondering just how far they have to go to keep their boyfriends or girlfriends happy.

From a parents point of few the worst was yet to come as part way through the performance of her new single “The Time of Our Lives” a lap dancing style pole appeared from the set piece ice cream van Cyrus was singing from, and she then proceeded to dance around it in a rather provocative fashion, a scene which those watching the show with their young teens and pre-teens found profoundly distasteful and disturbing.
